Sylvia S. Berg, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died March 25, 2009 at Cottage Grove Place following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Thomas E.S. Miller of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Friends may call from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, March 27, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include her children Gordon Gregg Berg M.D. and wife Yvonne of Cedar Rapids, and Wendy Fagan D.V.M. and husband Robert Greer of Fenton, MO; grand children Natalie, Amanda, and Cassandra Berg and Chris and Brett Greer and their families; and one sister Sigrid Puntenney of Boone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Ariel.

Sylvia S. Berg was born September 20, 1921 in Des Moines the daughter of H.T. and Grace (Thestrup) Streeper. She attended the University of Kansas, and later graduated from the National College of Education in Chicago. She was a teacher for many years at the Shawnee Mission Schools in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. In 1974 she earned her Masters of Education. She taught kindergarten for the majority of her career, and received numerous awards for her dedication to education. She moved to Cedar Rapids and began as a volunteer at Tanager Place in the art therapy program. She also volunteered as a docent at the Museum of Art. She was dearly loved by many, and will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
