Gertrude Evelyn Phelps
Dear Family, I was sorry to read of Gertrude's death. And unfortunately will not be able to attend her services. I prepared her taxes for 28 years. My description of Gertrude would be that she was a "fine lady". I loved her sense of humor and her interactions with Jayne. I also will miss her. Sincerely, Sherrie Kopecky

Gertrude continued to always be so pretty and well groomed. Jayne, you, too, are special--were SO faithful about getting your Mom to church over all the years. Please accept my sincere sympathy and good wishes as family lives go on without her.

My grandmother has served as a true inspiration for me. No matter what difficulty life threw at her she was always able to respond with grace, dignity and a down to earth matter-of-factness. From losing the use of her right arm at age 2 to multi strokes we never heard a complaint. Maybe an occasional "dam-it" under her breathe from frustration, but where some people may focus on their pain & suffering, she always seemed to keep her focus on family, friends and service to God. She was even able to find humor within these difficulties. My favorite lately was when she would say: "If I was walking any slower I'd be going backwards." Thank you "Grandma G". Your legacy lives within us all. -Scott

While we didn't know Mrs. Phelps well, we were impressed with her stamina and interest when she attended the Barger reunions in Cedar Rapids in August. She and Jayne visited and were so interested in the Barger side of the family. Thank you!
