From God we come and to Him we will return. Dear Mary Jen and family, The sign of a great man is when all who knew him repeatedly express the same extraordinary experiences they had in their relationships with him. Dick's efforts to bring people together, build relationships and collaboration, to pool people's talents and expertise for a greater level of success and accomplishment should never be forgotten. And to me, the most endearing thing about Dick was his ability to listen and mentor when he probably had many other things to do. He was a good friend. Mary Jen, you should know that Dick was exited about taking you to California for some time together. I hope it gives you comfort to know how much Dick was loved and respected and how much he will be missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him. May God grant you and your family patience and guidance during this very difficult time. Sincerely, Hassan and Salma Igram

Dear Mary Jen & Family I am so sorry for your loss. I met Dick right after he moved to Cedar Rapids and we had the opportunity to work together many times over the last 15 years. I respected his knowledge, his friendship and his humor. I join the countless others who were touched by his generous nature and his ability to listen. I could always count on Dick to have the answers or know who did! He was a "The Master" of Communication and Networking. I will miss him as a business partner and as a friend. First, my sincere condolences to Dick's family, associates, and friends. At one time or another, Dick was my supervisor, mentor, and friend in St. Joseph, Missouri, where we met, and later in Wayzata, Minnnesota, where we both happened to live and raise our families. He was the consummate professional. I was always amazed by the vast knowledge and curiosity he had. He was a true student of the business, as much as he was a student of life. I am deeply saddened by his passing. I wish I could be at the service, but I will be thinking of you all at the 11 am on Friday. Please give my special condolences to Andrew, Adam, and Anthony.

Mary Jen and the Damrow Family: My deepest sympathies and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I was one of the many young entrepreneurs that Dick mentored. I was pleased to get to see him just a few short weeks ago to briefly catch up. He was one of the kindest and most generous men I've ever had the privilege of crossing paths with. I learned a great deal from him about much more than just building a business - he was always interested in me as a complete person and shared some of his own experiences as important lessons. He made an indelible mark on me and this community - he will not be forgotten!

Mary Jen and family, I am truly sorry for your loss. Dick was a dear friend and a mentor to me and so many of my colleagues. His creative talents and his marketing counsel were tremendous - but most important was his counsel for how to live a better, more compassionate life, and to serve others. As great men go, he set the standard and broke the mold. I will miss him greatly.

Mary Jen and family - I personally wanted to add my condolences. You guys have been in our thoughts through this whole time. Dick was an amazing guy; he always made me feel so comfortable when I would run into him downtown, he would ask how the girls were doing - he really took the time to listen; even if it was a brief conversation in the skywalk. He will be missed and remembered by so many.

As part of the Minnesota Direct Marketing community, we really missed Dick when he moved to Iowa. He was a leader and a good friend. Dear Mary Jen and family: My thoughts and prayers are with you and in the coming weeks. I'll always remember Dick as one of the most "giving" individuals I've ever known. Dick's gracious demeanor was atypical for the Direct Marketing industry. He was a role model on being a business colleague and friend. Dick is one of those Cedar Rapids memories for which I will always be thankful. He will be missed but never forgotten. With deepest regrets, Chuck Ashford

Mary Jen--You may remember me, I have known Dick and been his good friend for 25 years, going back to his agency days in Minneaplis. I was shocked and devestated to learn yesterday of his passing. I talked to him just prior to his trip to California and we had planned to get together soon. In fact, he sent me a book that called the Second Half that he claimed had opened his eyes to the things in life that are most important to him. I just finished reading it and had hoped to discuss it with him; this just doesn't seem possible. Or fair. Dick was one of the most honest, kind-hearted and loyal friends I've ever had on this earth and I will dearly miss him. He spoke so often of how fortunate he was to find you and how you made his life complete after some uncertain times in his past. He truly found a home for himself and his family with you in Cedar Rapids and I was so happy for him. I am so sorry for your loss and share in your sorrow, as I have lost a true friend who I will never forget. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Mike Michael D. Today is March 22 and almost a month since Dick died (and just fourteen years since our first date!) I was not aware of this message board until a few days ago and finally took time to print the messages. Later today I will sit in the SONSHINE and soak up all that you have written. I have not begun to write thank you notes yet for the outpouring of love, food, encouragement, praises for Dick, and the many other ways that so many have helped me during the last few weeks. My heart is full of appreciation for all of you who have shared thoughts and love. My heart is full of appreciation to Dick for the fourteen years that we were together. I was so blessed to share this time together with a man who loved me unconditionally, prayed with me and taught me so many things. Thank you again for sharing your stories of Dick, too. God Bless you all with a partner "sent from Heaven". Mary Jen
