Memorial

Lois Arlene Wilson, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. She had recently resided at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha. Services at 11 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Dave Higdon will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Tuesday.
Lois is survived by her sons Alan (Tracey) of Naperville, IL, and David (Paula) of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Ryan, Brenton, Hillary, Douglas, Eric (Amanda), and Lance (Nicole) Wilson; five great-grandchildren, Avery, Gabrial, Brynn, Hannah, and Nadean; brother Melvin “Mike” Roup of DePere, WI, and former daughter in law Julie Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lester and Mary Lund Roup; her husband Donald Edward; brothers Donald and Robert Roup, and a sister Dorothy (Homer) Emerson.
Lois was born August 6, 1923 in DeWitt. She graduated from Lisbon High School where she proudly played on the Girls Basketball team for three years. She married Don E. Wilson on January 18, 1945, at the Methodist Church in Low Moor, IA. She was a homemaker most of her adult life and worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids during and after WWII as an assembler/test technician. Lois enjoyed sewing and knitting. After the death of her husband, she especially enjoyed going to senior luncheons and dances at the Hiawatha Community Center with special friends.
The family would like to express sincerest appreciation to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson, the staff of Promise House in Hiawatha, the Hiawatha Care Center, St. Luke’s 5 East, and St. Luke’s Hospice for the excellent care they provided to their Mother/Grandmother during her illness.
