Memorial

Nadine D. Merryman, 88, of 6126 Rockwell Drive NE, died at Hallmar Care Center, Monday, January 26, 2009, after losing a long and courageous battle with cancer. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Carol Sundberg of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and after 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel.

Survivors include her daughter, Dianna (Raymond) Jaramillo; two grandchildren, Ramona (Jacob) Maestas and Anthony (Tanya) Jaramillo; four great grandchildren, Elijah and Lucas Maestas, Lauryn and Emma Jaramillo, all of Espanola, New Mexico; nieces and nephews, Kenneth (Lavonne) Fishell of Orlando, Florida, Phillip (Pamela) Fishell, Lynn (Ronald) Laird, Sarah (Merrill) Strand, Amy (Nicholas) Caves, all of Alburnett, Russell Fishell Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Susan Kirkland of Wakefield, MA, Jack Kirkland of Burlington, MA, Martha Anne Muhl of Los Angles, CA and Jill Muhl Kobold of Bloomington, MN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Helen (Fred) Muhl of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; two brothers, Russell Fishell Sr. and Kenneth Kirkland Sr; and nephew, Kenneth Kirkland Jr.

She was born December 22, 1920 in Cedar Rapids to Eugenia and Raymond Kirkland . She graduated from Franklin High School and the Paris Academy of Cosmetology. She got her private pilots license and served in the Civil Air Patrol. She later worked as a draftsman with Collins Radio and then did barber and beauty work. One of her enjoyments in life was going on a big game hunt in northern Canada. She was a member of the National Hairdressers Association, Ellis Women’s Golf Group, VFW Auxiliary, the United States Bowling Congress, and the Red Hat Society. She also loved ballroom dancing.

On June 23, 1956 she married the love of her life, Tom Merryman. Both being avid golfers, they enjoyed many years of golfing together and traveled frequently throughout the United States to various golf tournaments.

To all who knew her, they would say that Nadine lived her life to the fullest, going headlong into everything she ever encountered that she wanted to do. She was a warm and caring person and she will be greatly missed by her loving family and her many friends she so loved being with.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous of Iowa, Cancer Research Association, and St. Luke’s Hospice of Cedar Rapids.
