Wayne is survived and cherished by his wife Cheryl, daughter Jo Scoville of Longmont, Colorado, son Peter (Lori) Haggin and daughter Sarah (Al) Hoeger of Cedar Rapids, step-sons Brian (Kim) Campbell of Atalissa, Iowa, and Mark (Christy) Campbell of Iowa City, Iowa, as well as grandsons Alex and Ryan Haggin, Kyle, Blake and Casey Campbell, and Zack Rick. Wayne is also survived by his sister Shirley (Clifford) Wood, special niece Elizabeth Henriksen, as well as nephew John (Diane) Henriksen and nieces Jan (Roger) Bieri and Cindy (Keith Smith) Wood. Wayne was born September 27, 1937, in Rockford, Illinois, to Cecil “Jack” and Edna Haggin. He married Babs Sellers in Rockford, Illinois. After raising their three children, they divorced in 1985. He wed his beloved Cheryl on July 15, 1995 in Springdale, Iowa.
Wayne graduated from Rockford College in 1966 and went on to work in the data processing field in various hospitals around the country. In the late-80s, Wayne left the corporate world and took a job as a bus driver for the Cedar Rapids School District — a job he truly loved, especially when he was interacting with the kids. He retired in 2007 after serving the school district for 18 years. Wayne loved to travel in his fifth-wheel and enjoyed going to new places and meeting new people. He was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and served as a NOMAD Mission Volunteer through the United Methodist Church for seven years. He was a member of the Shrine and while in Florida was a member of the Shrine Clown Unit. He took great pleasure in baking and cooking and sharing meals and fellowship with his many friends and family. Those who knew him well appreciated his wonderful sense of humor.
The family wishes to thank Dr. James Bell and the palliative care team at St. Luke's Hospital for their compassion, guidance and support. They also wish to thank Dr. Erich Streib, as well as the staff of St. Luke's Living Center West. All of these health care professionals provided Wayne and the family with extraordinary care.
If desired, memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
