Memorial

Dr. Albert E. Holcomb 94, of 2115 First Ave SE, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, in St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Thomas E.S. Miller of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Inurnment at a later date. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Saturday.

Survivors include his wife Helen Ridge, son Albert Holcomb III and wife Rochelle of Cedar Rapids, two grandsons Albert and Adam, three step children Paul Thomas Ridge and wife Julie of Marion, Steve Ridge and wife Rene of Cedar Rapids, and Betty Sue Archibald and husband Mike of Keosauqua, Iowa, 11 step grandchildren, and 9 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Della, brother Russell, and step daughter Sharon Kay.

Al was born May 26, 1914, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Albert E. and Clara D. Rogers Holcomb. He married Della M. Stender on June 16, 1937 in Pueblo, Colorado. She died October 14, 2000. He married Helen Ridge on March 7, 2001, in Cedar Rapids. He was an orthodontist practicing in Cedar Rapids and Manchester. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He received his BA, MA in History, DDS, and MS in orthodontics all from the University of Iowa. He was a private pilot and loved to travel. He served in the US Navy as a communications officer during WW II at Pearl Harbor.

Al was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
