Carol E. Morrissey, 76, of Iowa City, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, January 19, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, from complications of lung cancer. Services at 1 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids. Rev. Rudy Juarez of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City will officiate. Inurnment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after noon on Thursday.

Survivors include four children Colleen Morrissey and Patrick Morrissey both of Cedar Rapids, Regina Morrissey of Denver, Colorado, and Peggy Schneider of Iowa City, her sister Laurel Condon of Cedar Rapids, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and her dog Missy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and one brother.

Carol was born December 26, 1932 in Bennett, Iowa, to John and Leola Bugge Laschanzky. She married John J. Morrissey on June 15, 1954 in Iowa City. She was a bookkeeper at Colonial Bakery in Cedar Rapids from 1973 to 1993. She enjoyed passing out bakery samples at Sam’s Club after her retirement. She was a volunteer, and member of the Mercy Hospital Guild in Iowa City. She lived her life with enthusiasm, and her spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
