Dear David, Steve, Doug, Stu and Jason, Your mother Mary was a wonderful sister to me, warmly welcoming me into the family when I married Duane, telling me stories and tall tales about family life, and sharing her love and pride for her sons and their accomplishments. I am grateful for all the kindnesses she showed me, grateful for her humor, and most of all grateful for the years we shared as sisters. My condolences and love to you all, Lorraine

Dear David, Steve, Doug, Stu and Jason. My heart goes out to all of you and your families for the loss you are feeling today. When Wendy asked me to marry him 39 years ago, he told me he needed to call his sister and introduce me to her and that was the day we became friends. We talked to each other often and we did take a trip to Costa Rica and being the trooper that she was, she never complained when my son Rick took us on a wild 12 hr trip to the Rain Forest. We also had plans to take, a trip to Cancun but we run out of time. Love Regina

Dear Family: I know Mary as a fellow member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals of which she has been a dedicated member for 33 years. I will forever remember Mary for her support and encouragement of myself and fellow IAAP members. She is someone whose comments and opinions were always sought out and were well respected. We will miss her physical presence at our meetings but know she will forever be there in spirit. -Cindy Pfennig CPS/CAP

The Family of Mary Eden. I remember your mother and grandmother from the time I was a small child. She was always full of fun and loved to have a great time. She even gave me a hard time when she found out I named my son Douglas accusing me of getting to many Douglas Eden's in the world. May God bless you in your time of sorrow. Renald Eden

David, Steve, Doug, Stu and Jason: Mary was a wonderful sister, friend, teacher and mentor to the Eden and Dittmer families. This very large group included friends of long forgotten, distant relatives and friends of friends who would wander through at any given time-day or night. Her door and heart were always open and one knew that you were always welcome in the Eden household, with or without an Eden son in tow. Mary was rock solid and one knew you could always look to her for guidance and advice. She would dish out her wisdom with her own dry wit. I remember Mary for her special way of breaking any tense or difficult situation with her one line humor. Many times she would say some smart-a@#% remark that would cause one to stop, look inside oneself, shake one's head and join in her laughter. She had a way of laughing at life, ourselves and our own shortcomings. It been reassuring to know the door and heart were always open all these years. Between her faith in God, nonjudmental ways, and sense of humor, I knew I was always welcome. As I look at each of you, I see a little of her in each of you. May God bless you and keep you. Doug, David, Jason, Stu and Steve - I had the privilege of meeting your mother only once. It was last April; she had come with some friends -and an intriguing selection of foods- to visit with Betty, Duane and myself at Duane's hunting cabin. After sizing me up for a while (you know your Mom), she decided that I was OK, and a beautiful afternoon became even more brilliant whenever she smiled (which was quite often). I found her to be sharp-wittedly funny, very irreverent, and utterly engaging; what old-timers call a "pistol". I am sorry that I shall not see her again until I get to heaven, too. My sincere condolences.

Steve, Nancy, Doug and Eden family, So sorry to hear about your mother. She and my mom worked together in the Admissions office at Coe College. They had a great time chatting about their kids' lives at Coe students. And years later they both were patients at the 5-Center Blood Outpatient Center. They spent many hours chatting and laughing while getting their blood transfusions. What a sparkling personality your mother had. Peace and prayers to you and your family, Judy Baldwin

Doug, my mom called me last night and told me about Mrs. E. Anyone who could put up with me, you, Garske and O'Donnell, (not to mention Steve Eden, Dwight Kuster, etc.), well, I'm guessing there's a place in heaven waiting for your mom. I can still see her, with that half-smile on her face, making us greaseburgers and knowing we were not exactly choirboys. Our sympathies to you and Willie, Steve and Nancy, Dave, Stu, Jason, and all your kids. Sorry we can't be there. Hope to talk to you soon.

Very sorry to learn of Mary's passing. My deepest though belated condolences to her family. Mary was my colleague, friend and guide at VRC Co. for over two years. She made my time in Cedar Rapids very pleasant and memorable by including me in several occasions with her wonderful family. She also opened her doors to my family, which I will always remember. Her strength and spirit are unforgettable and live on.
