Dolores “Dee” R. McCoy, 86, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2009 at her home surrounded by family and friends. Private family entombment will take place at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.

Dee is survived by a loving and caring niece, Julia Dennis (Mark) and their son Luke of West Liberty, IA, a sister Lois (Carol) Voelkers of Cedar Rapids, nieces, Cheryl Sonka of Hobson, TX, Pam DuRossette of Lawrence, KS and Diane Ricketts and son Matt of Milford, CT and nephews, David Ricketts (Ann) of Solon, IA and Tony Ross (Jane) of Leawood, Kansas. She is also survived by Lance and Judy Sonka and family from San Antonio, TX and special friends Jim and Midge Barvinek of Marion, IA.

Dee was born in Chicago, IL on January 21, 1922 and later moved to Iowa with her family. She graduated from Fairfield High School. Dee attended college and later married Paul C. McCoy on October 16, 1945 in Chicago, IL. Paul passed away on December 2, 1972. At that time Dee was a partner with her husband in their insurance business, Paul C. McCoy Insurance Agency. She was one of the first woman pioneers in the corporate and private insurance industry in this area. Dee kept the business after her husband’s death and ran it very successfully until she retired and sold the business in 1998.

Her loving friend and partner in business, Glade Butterfield, preceded her in death. He brought to her unconditional friendship and everlasting support until the time of his passing in 2008. Dee enjoyed her second home, Elmcrest Country Club and she was an avid newspaper reader. She also was a season ticket holder for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. She will be sadly missed by many friends, family and business acquaintances.

The family would like to thank Mercy Home Health Care staff and Hospice of Mercy for their compassionate care.
