Lloyd E. Tyler of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, died December 3rd, 2008 after a short illness. There will be private committal services. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Tyler, and his children Elizabeth Rauch (Gary Rauch) of Boulder, Colorado, Jeffrey Tyler (Sara Tyler) of Estes Park, Colorado, and Ann Tyler (Peggy Shinner) of Chicago, Illinois, as well as grandsons Peter Rauch (Tanya Rapacz) of Ashland, Massachusetts, and Michael Rauch of Tiburon, California, and great-grandchildren Alexander Rauch and Annelise Rauch of Ashland, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by sisters Bonnie Strong and Lois Davis.
Lloyd was born in Macedonia, Iowa, October 31, 1915, the son of Rex Tyler and Merlie Carmichael Tyler. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Jewell, at Decorah, Iowa on November 29, 1941.
Lloyd received his BS degree in Agronomy in 1939 and his MS in Agronomy in 1954, both from Iowa State University. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, from 1940 to 1972, principally in Iowa and Illinois. At the time of his retirement he was Illinois State Soil Scientist in Champaign, Illinois. He was in the U.S. Army service for four years during World War II.
