Wayne was born June 27, 1917, in Wellman, Iowa, the son of James and Ruth (Gerber) Lewis. He graduated from Wellman High School and attended the University of Iowa. On January 10, 1942, Wayne married Maxine Gillespie in Omaha, Nebraska. Their marriage continued 66 loving years. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. For many years he worked in the family businesses – the Lewis Café and the Oakwood Dance Pavilion in Wellman. Later he took much pride in helping his customers in the men’s clothing departments of Killian’s and Armstrong’s.

Wayne was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church in Wellman, the American Legion Post 298 in Marion, the Masons, and a 50 year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was an avid golfer, woodcarver, and longtime Hawk and Cub fan. He cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and friends.

Survivors include his wife Maxine; his children: Nancy (Dale) Stout of Cedar Rapids, and Jim (Diane) Lewis of Marion; nineteen grandchildren: Jamey (Carla) Stout, Molly (Phil) Tschopp, Jeff (Molly) Stout, Joe (Brooke) Stout, Brian (Martha) Lewis, Amy (Paul) Schrader, Katie, Susie, Daniel, Ben, Joseph, Erica, Nicole, Christopher, Isabelle, Maya, Marcos, Charlie and Grace Lewis, and great grandchildren Theo and Zella Tschopp and Milo Stout.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bill, a sister Katheryn, and an infant son Tommy.

Heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Hogenson and Dr. Payvandi for helping Dad enjoy a long wonderful life.
