Stephen P. Cope, 59, of 3345 Stone View Circle SW, died Saturday November 29, 2008 in St. Luke’s Hospital following a sudden illness. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday December 3, at King of Kings Lutheran Church, where visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until service time. The Rev. Mark Halvorson will officiate. Inurnment: Private at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Newhall. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include wife, Judy, his children, Amy (Jerry) Wright of Cedar Rapids, Jamie (Tim) Cope of West Des Moines, Step-daughter, Diana (Daniel) Slaughter of Wausau, Wisconsin, a brother, Richard (Susan) Cope of Marshalltown, a sister, Pamela (Ronald) Bane of Marshalltown, 3 grandchildren, Joshua Wright, Donovan Young, Jordyn Butler, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Penny.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Michael Cope.

Stephen was born October 8, 1949 in Marshalltown, the son of Walter and Berta (Kline) Cope. He married Judy Koopman on August 16, 1980 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Stephen graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1977 and also took graduate courses at Iowa State University in 1974. He was a Information Technologist and Trainer. He worked for Norand, The Gazette and ACT. He enjoyed computer games, astronomy, music and reading. He was a friend of Bill W. He served in the U. S. Army during Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He was a member of First Cavalry Division and received many medals for service during his Tour of Duty

A memorial fund has been established by the family in lieu of flowers.
