Memorial

Theodore M. “Ted” Leigh, of Cottage Grove Place passed away on Wednesday November 19, 2008. Memorial services: 11:00 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The Rev. William B. Harnish will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ted was born in New York City on July 13, 1911 to Etta and Mitchell Leigh. When he was quite young the family moved to Denver, Colorado. He attended schools there and graduated with special honors from the University of Colorado where he received a Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree. He worked at Colby Steel and Engineering Company in Seattle, Link-Belt Company in Chicago and was at Link-Belt Speeder/FMC in Cedar Rapids for 30 years. He was a licensed professional engineer and a Certified Safety Professional in the state of Iowa. After retirement he was engineer consultant for 10 years. He was a member of Fau Beta Pi. He was a long time volunteer at the Science Station where he enjoyed working with young people. As retirement neared he had a desire to build a model ship to prove to himself that he had enough patience to do so. This resulted in two beautiful ships, one is at Cottage Grove Place and the other was given to the children’s section at the Cedar Rapids Public Library. Since the flood its fate is unknown.

Ted served 4 years in World War II in ordnance and the Army Air Force where he attained the rank of Major.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother.

Ted married Peggy Christensen at Arlington, Washington on June 28, 1939. She, along with several nieces and nephews, survive him.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute to Camp Courageous or a charity of their choice.
