Memorial
Robert Lee Simmons, 75, of 2285 Hillview Dr., Marion, died Friday, October 17, 2008, in his home following a short illness. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion with Rev. Rodney Allers officiating. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Marcella, four daughters Norma (Gary) Ford, and Lyla Richards, and Marlys (Bob) Herring all of Marion, and Aletha (Lyle) Fox of Toddville, and two sons John (Bev) O’Donnell and Bill (Tracie) Simmons all of Cedar Rapids, a brother Warren(Barb) Simmons of Ft. Myers, Florida, and sister Juanita (Dean) Yearns of Queen City, Missouri, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert was born February 18, 1933 in Downing, Missouri to George and Daisy Mae Faris Simmons. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He married Marcella Marvin on March 24, 1962 in Downing, Missouri. He worked in the bacon department at Wilson’s for many years retiring in 1988, he also was a maintenance man for the Cedar Rapids Community Schools at Franklin Middle School. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and family activities.
