Verna M. Draheim Van Vreede, 91, of Cottage Grove Place died there on Thursday Oct. 9, 2008 after a short illness. Services at 10:00 AM on Monday in the Great Room at Cottage Grove Place where friends may call from 9:00 AM until service time. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her son, David (Cheryl) Draheim of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Diane (Douglas) Rohloff of Fremont, Nebraska and Shane Draheim of Hampton, Virginia; three great grandchildren, Justin and Matthew Rohloff, Alexis Draheim, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Verna was born on Sept. 28, 1917 in Albia, the daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Oris Kolvek. She married Reuben Draheim on April 8, 1939 in Cedarberg, Wisconsin. He died in 1966. She later married Cletus Van Vreede on March 21, 1975 in Chicago, Illinois. He died in 2006. Verna was a homemaker and a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She did hospital volunteer work for several years and enjoyed crafts, especially hooking rugs a Cottage Grove Place. The family requests, please no flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Matthew Catholic Church in Verna’s name.
