Memorial

Gerald R. “Jerry” Ferring, 71, of 2821 Glen Elm Dr. NE, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Neil Manternach of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church will officiate. Private entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday and at the chapel after 10 AM on Monday.

Survivors include his wife Shirley, his mother Alma Ferring of Lansing, Iowa, two daughters Tami (Terry) Abraham of Lisle, Illinois, and Debbie Ferring-Seaton of Cedar Rapids, a son Jeff (Stacie) Ferring of Palo, sisters, Donna Danzer, Mary Garrett and Rita Heim, brothers Bill, Tom, and Ron Ferring, and six grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Abraham, and Sanders, Ashten, Sloane, and Saylor Ferring. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Ferring, brothers Keith, Steven, Kenny, and Dwayne, and two sisters Virginia and Bernice.

Jerry was born October 29, 1936, in Lansing, Iowa, to Joseph and Alma Cole Ferring. He married Shirley Wolfe on October 24, 1959 in Cedar Rapids. He was a truck driver for Teamsters Local 238 for 25 years retiring in January of 1999. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1957. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially at his lake home at Holiday Lake. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and was an Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
