Raymond C. Westrom, 83, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove, Oklahoma, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday from 4PM to 7PM.
Raymond is survived by several nieces and nephews; David Westrom Ellen, Shelley Sullens Ken, Lorri Provow Ed, Jeff Westrom Pam, Joan Wilson, Nancy Hildebrand, many great nieces and great nephews; a sister-in-law, Maxine Westrom of Cedar Rapids; close friends, Mary and David Cotes; and several good friends..
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Harold, Donald and Herbie Westrom.
Raymond was born February 3, 1925 in Cedar Rapids the son of Albert Clarence and Retta Maude Corderman Westrom. Raymond attended Johnson Elementary School and was a graduate of Franklin High School. Raymond proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a cook on the USS Richmond. After his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he spent a number of years at the Roosevelt Hotel in different departments. He was an avid collector of antiques and other collections. He enjoyed giving tours of his homes where he had displayed his many collections. He loved to dance and spent many happy times at area ballrooms. He was a very friendly person, had many friends and will be greatly missed. Raymond was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and also of First Christian Church. He was a member of the Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge #263 AF & AM and the Jim Beam Bottle Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, East Central Iowa Chapter.
