Lloyd E. Elson

I am very sad to hear of the death of my great grandpa Elson. I will always cherish the fun times I had with him during my stay in Iowa. He was not hard to live with at all! He was always making us laugh. I'll always remember trying to get him to come dow

I'm really going to miss you grandpa and loved you alot. I'll miss being able to spend time with you because you always made me feel special and I could be myself when we were together because you made it so easy. It didn't take much to make you happy; just taking you somewhere to eat or have coffee and sit and talk. I'll always remember how good I would feel after we were together because your love was unconditional and there are alot of memories I won't forget; too many to write but they will always be in my heart. I will miss you every day until we are together once again. I love you grandpa, Jamie

Dear Dixie & Jerry,
We were very sorry to hear about your father. How fortunate that you were able to spend the time with him in September. We know you were with him as much as possible and of course he appreciated that and you know you did all you could. It's difficult when your parents are a long distance away. Your calls brightened up his days, how incredible that he died at 4:00 pm just as he was in your thoughts. We saw his obituary in the Gazette, it sounds like he lived a full life. Love, thoughts & prayers.

We want to express a BIG THANK-YOU to some special friends that volunteered their time & love to my Dad. Gene & Sheila Nedved of Marion & Randi & Dennis Mecsko of Cedar Rapids. They did more than we could ever thank them for. We live so far away & couldn't always be there for Dad. These friends took Liz over to see him. They brought treats & his favorite candy. Much more than we can mention here. They all became friends too!
Dad would say "THANKS A MILLION" and so do we.
May GOD Bless YOU All for Your Kindness,
Jerry & Dixie Egeberg

Dixie & Jerry,
Bill & I wish to extend to you our deepest sympathy at this difficult time. I read both of your tributes, thank you for writing them. It helps to know these things about your father. While we were at the funeral home we heard more memories from your sister-in-law. What a sweet man that everyone loved! I am glad we had the change to see him and again, our deepest sympathy.

Dear Dixie,

I am saddened to hear the news of your Fathers' passing. I know your attention, care and concern for his welfare was a blessing to him and a great comfort to you. It truly was a sign from God that he left this earthly life at 4:00 pm. I have never regretted the time spent with Mom when she was here on earth. I am so glad you were there this month. I will call you soon. Take care and much love,

By Golly, Grandpa your going home! Most of my fondest memories are of grandpa and grandma's house and going to Bishop's. Grandpa loved his pie, right up until the end! Always quiet, sitting in his chair, never a cross word-even when I was not so quiet. "She's a good girl!" will forever be engraved in my fondest memories and repeated often with a good laugh. I am so glad he will finally get his ultimate rest in heaven above, but I will see him again and say....."Your a good boy!" and we can smile together! Love you always, Rachel and family

Dear Dixie, Jerry, Shellee, Jamie and family,
I'm so sorry that you have all lost the companionship of "grandpa." I know Dixie, that you will miss your daily chats. You set a beautiful example of devotion for all of us. Find peace in that he has gone home to rest. I have so many fond memories of being at your house as Shellee and I were growing up, and "grandpa" was very much a fixture there. He sure did know how to make a young girl feel pretty--and boy, did he love to dance--it was always a polka or a twirl to a little Laurence Welk! Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you adjust to life here without his smiling face and sharp wit.
All my love,
Jo

I remember my cousin Lloyd at Lindale Bishops eating and we had some good ole visits. He'd always ask me about my Mom and older brother Jerald and sister Dorothy. When Mom would come back from CA. for a visit we'd all go up to Central City to Falcon Center for a dance. Mom and Lloyd would dance and have a grand ole time. So I'm sure that they're dancing on the streets of gold tonight. As my Mom "Oral" would always say

It is very hard to say good bye to your Father. We were blessed to know him through you. I remember seeing him in Lindale Mall and telling him I had a hug from Dixie in Florida. He thanked me and gave me a hug back. We will meet him again some day in a better place.

We're going to miss taking Liz to see Lloyd. He loved the DQ malts and the ribs and always said, "Thanks a million". Enjoyed his Lawrence Welk. It was always a joy to visit him. We know he is in a better place. Maybe now he will find his John Deere tractor.

Dixie:
I was sad to hear of the death of your father, but oh how we rejoice that he is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior. Everyday at 4:00 will not be the same for you, but just think of your Dad being re-united with family and friends this very moment.
My prayers are with you.

Fond Memories
I remember:
all those dents in the pk-up; a new one after a dance.
all those sayings:"this is bigger than all outside!" about Coralridge Mall
Lone Star's Ribs
Whistling or singing tunes in the car
Polka Dances & his love for music
Liz & Lloyd at Lindale or HyVee
I remember Lloyd (my father-in-law)
A good man that I'm going to miss but know we'll meet again!

My grandpa will be greatly missed and thought of fondly by me that is for sure! Little things he would say, such as by golly, land's sakes and she's a good girl...when she's sleepin' will be in mine and my childrens vocabulary for years to come.
I spent much of my childhood at my grandma and grandpa's house. Grandpa would tell me I was the best strawberry picker ever. He would sit for endless interviews with me and my tape recorder and never complain. I still have the tapes to prove it!
He was warm and friendly and I never once heard him raise his voice. I talked with him a few days ago and told him that I loved him and he told me the same by golly. The world will not be the same without him but I know he is at peace in heaven and that will give me peace until I see him again. I love you grandpa!

Before I wrote today I looked at my Daily Bread to see what it said on September 23rd; the day God chose especially for grandpa to go home to be with Him. It said "From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth". Psalm 33:14 God was there even though no one could see him to take grandpa by the hand and lead him to Heaven where he could be whole again. We will miss you grandpa and the way you made us laugh and smile and respect you. But as a christian, we never have to say "goodbye"; we can say "we'll see you in awhile". Love you grandpa, Gaylene xo(wife of Jamie)

A memory of my Dad,
He was a hard worker. He farmed & worked in town. He built his & mom's very first home by hauling old lumber from a torn down school house near Toddville. He did it all & built that house & other's later on. He was very witty & could whistle a beautiful tune & sing a good song. I'm so going to miss our visits & daily phone calls (yes) everyday @ 4:00 Iowa time! The LORD knows we'll see each other again.
Love Always, Your Daughter Dixie

I have so many found memories spending time at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Grandpa had a good sense of humor and to this day me and my sister say "He's a Good Boy" the way grandpa always said. It still makes us laugh.

Memories of my Gr-Grandpa, In 1999 when I was 11 yrs old my Nana Dixie & Jerry flew me to Iowa to spend a month. It was so much fun & I love Iowa too! My Great-Grandpa Elson had a hospital stay & needed to come & recover with us. He was fun & he put up with my antics....like my lawyer phase... & where were you on the night of 3/17/1942? Just the facts please! haha Once there was a tornado warning & of course he wouldn't go downstairs. We all laughed alot. It was so good that we got to spend those times together. Not many even get to know a great-grand-parent. I was blessed. I'll miss him but we know we'll all be together again someday for more good times than we can imagine. Love, Alexia (daughter of Shellee & granddaughter of Dixie)

In Memory of Lloyd E. Elson I was a boy under 10 years old in the 1940s when Lloyd came to family reunions at my grandfather’s farm in Springville, Iowa. His wife Genevieve was my first cousin once removed. Decades passed, and I lost track of the Elson family. Then nearly four years ago an unexpected email came from Shellee who was doing family research. She put me in touch with Dixie whose frequent emails brought me up to date about Lloyd, especially after her trips to Cedar Rapids. So I feel reacquainted with Lloyd through the love and devotion of Dixie, his daughter. His was a full life and worthy of celebrating. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Cor. 1:3-4 Rev.
