NAME Ruth E. O'Kelly, 85, of West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, formerly a resident of Village Ridge Assisted Living in Marion, died Saturday, September 27, 2003, in West Ridge Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Services at 10:30 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Christine Wagner-Hecht Hospice of Mercy Chaplain will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 10 AM on Tuesday.
Survivors include her daughter Barbara Lange Charlier and husband Darrel of Marion, two granddaughters, Debra and Dawn Charlier of Marion, a brother David H. White of Columbia City, Indiana, and a sister-in-law Pauline Wagner of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and her brothers, Carl R. White and Harold N. White.
Ruth was born May 27, 1918 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Carl Oliver and Angeline Hunter White. She graduated from Springville High School in 1936. She married Glenn A. Lange on November 12, 1936. He passed away August 8, 1957. She married Orval L. 'Pat' O'Kelly on December 19, 1958. He passed away March 18, 1994. Ruth worked at Rockwell Collins for 28 years in the white room before retiring in 1979.
Ruth loved her family and friends. She also loved music, dancing, traveling, books, crossword puzzles, crocheting, volunteer work and her cats. She shall be greatly missed by all who shared her life.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.
