Memorial

Charles H. Vyskocil, 92, of Crestview Acres died there on Friday, Feb. 21, 2003 after long illness. Services at 1 PM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Fiends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Lillian, a resident of Crestview Acres and a son, Don, of Houston, TX. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Linda Gorkow, Scott, John, Julie, Nathan and David Vyskocil, Terri Czajkowski, Kerri Jared, Jill Baker, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Charles and Richard and a brother, Henry Jr.
Charles was born on Nov. 10, 1910 in Vamberk, Czechoslovakia. He came to the United States in 1912 and graduated from old Washington High School. He played the violin and played in the Coe College Orchestra. He married Lillian F. Coufal on Sept. 23, 1933 in Vinton. Charles began working at Western Fraternal Life Association in 1928 and retired as President of WFLA in 1979. He was a member of WFLA Lodge 262, Czech Heritage, SPJST, Sokol's and the Cedar Rapids Traveling Men's Club. Charles was active in the Boy Scouts earning the Silver Beaver Award and served in the National Guard.
The Vyskocil family would like to bless all who loved and cared for Charles. His humor and the twinkle in his eye will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Czech Heritage Foundation or the Hawkeye Council of Boy Scouts of America in Charles's name.
