Verna E. Dawson, 96, a resident of the Keystone Care Center in Keystone, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died there Wednesday, August 20, 2008, following a short illness. Services will be held at 9 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30 PM Friday and at the chapel after 8:30 AM on Saturday. Surviving are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers Richard and William Jahnke. Verna was born April 21, 1912 in Luzerne, Iowa to Henry and Rosa Wehrman Jahnke. She married Kenneth R. Dawson on September 19, 1936 in Luzerne. Kenneth died June 19, 1993. Verna was a draftsman for Collins Radio for 18 years. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, and a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She had been a volunteer at the flower stall at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She loved gardening, cats, eating out, traveling, her dog Jake, and spending time with family and friends.
