Donna M. Cones, 77, of 1556 – 6th Avenue SE, died at Living Center East, on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, after a long illness. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. William Harnish. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held after 12 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.Donna is survived by three children, Paul Linda Cones and John Rondae Cones, all of Cedar Rapids, and Laura Shane of Tacoma, WA; a brother, Don Elarton of Martelle, and sister, Doris McGowan of Cedar Rapids, She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, a son, Howard Cones, a brother, John Elarton; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.Donna was born on July 16, 1931 in Cedar Rapids to Warren and Fern Elarton. She married Edward Cones there on September 5, 1947. Donna was a member of Internationally Yours, a pen pal organization and wrote to her many pen pals over the world. She loved to read and was a member of the Smithsonian Institute. Her favorite pastime was having coffee one night a week with her children, grand and great grandchildren to hear about what was happening in their lives. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.Memorials may be made to the family.
