Memorial
Emerald A. Fisher III, 75, of 919 71st Street NE, died Sunday, August 31, 2008, at his home following a short illness. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Thursday in First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren with Rev. Tammy Buseman officiating. Friends may register at the church after 1:30 PM on Thursday. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Surviving to honor his memory are five children, Charles Fisher of Cedar Rapids, Mark Larene Fisher of Newhall, Wendy Fisher of Cedar Rapids, Michael Faith Fisher of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Crystal Gary Kerr of Marion, six grandchildren, Janis, Krista, Allison, Veronica, Caleb, and Deborah Jean, five great grandchildren, Michael, Dalton, Cody, Levi, and Breanna, and three nieces, Judy Kingsbury and Wendy Lynn Furbay both of Mesa, Arizona, and Kathy Blythe of Snyder, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother Virgil Fisher, a sister Marjorie Furbay, and a niece Janet Zerr.
Emerald was born October 20, 1932 in Stanwood, Iowa to Emerald A. Fisher II, and Fern Hegarty Fisher. He married Barbara Jean Pecher on September 7, 1953 in Brooklyn, Iowa. She died August 5, 2008. He served in the US Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars working on A-4 Skyhawks and A-7 Corsair II's attack aircraft, retiring in 1973 after 20 years of service. He worked for Universal Gym Equipment for several years. He was a member of First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, coin collecting, carpentry, and genealogy.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
