Rachel Vivian Eutsler, 94, of Cedar Rapids passed away Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Northbrook Manor following a long illness. Services: 1:00 PM Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment will be in Greenville, Virginia at a later date. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Monday from 4PM to 7PM. The Rev. David Hohmann and The Rev. Glenn Bender will officiate.
She is survived by a daughter, Gael Evans of Springfield, MO; a son-in-law, Mack Evans and a grandson, Colin Wilson; two sisters, Ruth Bode of Fort Dodge and Marian Dickson of Davenport; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fred, a chaplain in WW II; a son Phillip; and three siblings, Ellen Thorpe, Sarah Rosenberger and Charles Rosenberger.
Rachel was born February 6, 1914 in rural Bemidji, Minnesota the daughter of Homer and Gael Goens Rosenberger. She completed High School in Cedar Falls and went on to receive degrees from Iowa State Teachers College and the Eastman School of Music. On June 7, 1950 Rachel married the love of her life, Frederick Byerly Eutsler in Raleigh, North Carolina. They were blessed with a son and a daughter. Rachel worked for the Cedar Rapids School System as a music teacher, teaching elementary string music.
During her life, Rachel was an avid musician, mastering both violin and viola. She continued to share those talents throughout her lifetime through teaching, developing orchestral programs and playing with fellow musicians. She was a faithful member of First Congregational Church. Rachel will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
