Peter D. Carper, 61, Bethany Manor in Story City, formerly Cedar Rapids and Ames died at Bethany Manor on Tuesday July 29, 2008 after a short illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Friday in Cedar Rapids at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may register after 12:30 PM. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial services will also be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames.
Survivors include numerous cousins, many friends and his guardians, John and Penny Wierson of Nevada, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Peter was born on July 2, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Berniece Douglas Carper. At the age of 9 months, Peter entered Woodward School, received his education and resided there until the age of 19. He lived the rest of his life in Story County. Peter did various jobs ranging from kitchen help to filling vending machines. He was loved by many and never met a stranger. Peter enjoyed watching John Wayne and Elvis Presley movies, attending Church at Memorial Lutheran Church, attending One Heart Horse Therapy in Nevada and competing in the Special Olympics. Memorial donations may be given to Story County Community Life in Peter's name.
