*** Reuben I. Olson, 61, of 5421 16th Ave. SW. died Thursday June 5, 2008 at St. Lukes Hospital after a sudden illness. Memorial services at 11 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where there will also be military rites. Rev. Lori Wunder will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Eric and his wife, Michelle Pihlaja-Olson, and Michael all of Chicago, Illinois and Andrew, who is a student at UNLV. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Dayne and Emmitt and his former wives, Irene Olson of Chicago and Helen Arnold of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Reuben was born on Nov. 6, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Reuben and Emma Olson. He married Irene Bodnar in Chicago and was married for 11 years before their divorce. He then married Helen Arnold in Chicago and was married for 23 years before their divorce.
Reuben was a police officer in Chicago for 13 years before moving to Cedar Rapids. He was the co-owner and operator for the Hawkeye Nut Company in Cedar Rapids for 4 years and later was the maitre d' at Amalgamated Spirits and Provisions. Most recently he was a fitness instructor at the M.A. C. for the past 10 years and also worked in sales at Cassill Motors. He proudly served in the army during the Vietnam War as a military policeman. Reuben enjoyed all types of guns, watching movies, and especially the time spent with his family and many many friends.
