Emma Elizabeth Allen, 89, a resident of Methwick Community died Saturday April 26, 2008 in the Methwick Woodlands following an extended illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where visitiation begins at 9:00 a.m. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Cedar Memorial Grant Wood Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Emma was born in Cedar Rapids on February 23, 1919, the daughter of Luella Juhl and Raymond Clark Allen.
She was preceded in death by both her parents and a brother James.
Survivors include her sister Mrs Ruth Nielson, a niece, Kathy David Taylor, a nephew, John Dorie Nielson, Eight great nephews, and six great great nieces and six great great nephews.
Emma graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor and masters degree in instrumental and vocal music. She taught for 44 years, most of those in the Waterloo and then in Cedar Rapids. She was a life long member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids Malta Chapter of the Eastern Star, Gethsemme Shrine, and the Retired Teachers Association of Cedar Rapids.
The family would like to extend a thanks to Methwick Community, especially the staff at Arbor Place and the Woodlands, Dr. Richard Pope and the staff from Essence of Life Hospice for their loving friendship and compassionate care for Emma.
A memorial fund has been established for the Methwick Community.
