Helen Marie Rock Reed, 78, of Cedar Rapids passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday at First Lutheran Church with a visitation at the church beginning at 9:30 A.M. The Rev. Kay Slocum will officiate. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born December 28, 1929 in Fulton County, Illinois to Lester Dwight and Eva Margaret Zumstein Rock. In 1942, the family moved to Burlington, Iowa. She worked at Burlington Bank and Trust for several years before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1957. She was a secretary at Cargill for 18 ½ years, retiring in 1996. She married Ralph J. Reed on June 25, 1960 in Cedar Rapids. He passed away in 1989.
Helen is survived by a step-daughter, Jeanie Etter; three step-grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Alice Schofield of Mediapolis, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Rock of Yuma, AZ, Donna Rock of Elgin, IL and Mary Roberts of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph; and two brothers, Robert Rock and Donald Rock.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Keenagers, Witwer Senior Center and American Legion Auxiliary Hanford Unit #5.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
