Robert H. Foster, 85, of 610 Grant Wood Drive SE, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, after a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O'Connor. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home where friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and from 9:30 to 10:15 am Friday at the church. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include three children, Robert "Larry" Pat Foster of Cedar Rapids, Dr. Denis Kathy Foster of Bellingham, WA, and Martha Jim Caristi of Valparaiso, IN; a sister, Kathleen Gene Mahnke of Florida; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Foster, of Florida; six grandchildren, Laura Maharry, Paul Foster, Jennifer Wright, Gregory Foster, and Anne and Michael Caristi; and four great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Kathleen; a brother and a sister.

Robert was born on June 28, 1922 in Mason City to Willard and Katherine Foster. He married Mary Kathleen Byrne on May 26, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. Mary Kathleen died in 2006. He served in the Army Air Corps, in the South Pacific where he was a machinist and a cook. Robert was a foreman at FMC for over 40 years, retiring in 1982. Robert loved woodworking and gardening, being known for his tomatoes. He was a wonderful handyman.

A memorial fund has been established for the Sisters of Mercy or All Saints Church.
