Irene H. Nash Rick, 89, of the Higley Mansion died there on Tuesday March 25, 2008 after a long illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include two sons, William Nash and his wife, Susan of Keokuk and James Nash and his wife Sandy of Corvalis, Oregon, a step daughter, Barb Hute and a step son, Bud Rick both of Arizona, and one sister, Albia Olson of Kenosha, Wisconsin. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Becki Davis, Pam, Derek, Lindsay, Jennifer and Cameron Nash and one great grandson, Max Davis. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Navratil and one sister, Dorothy Stastny.
Irene was born on Aug. 1, 1918 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Albia Dostal Navratil. She was active in the GRA and graduated from McKinley High School in 1936. She married William Nash on Sept. 4, 1937 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1976. She then married Hugh Rick on July 14, 1980 in Missouri. He died in 2002.
Irene was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She worked at Spryncil's Restaurant, now the Tic Toc, and later founded Meals on Wheels in Cedar Rapids. Irene went on to cook for the Marion School System at both Marion High and Nixon Elementary and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
