Joyce W. "JW" Underwood, Jr., 81, of Cedar Rapids, died March 13, 2008 at Northbrook Care Center after a short illness. Visitation: Friday, March 14, from 4 to 8 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Services: 3 pm, Saturday, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn LaVonne; two daughters, Genine Joe Davis of Rudd; Cindy John Pansegrau of Solon; one son, Mark Barb Underwood of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Toni Davis and Amy Holt; three grandsons, Brad Davis, Jay and Justin Andersen; and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joyce Wesley Underwood, Jr. was born June 26, 1926 to Joyce, Sr. and Welcome B. Davis Underwood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Kathryn LaVonne Gibson on November 4, 1951 in Fairfax. He served his country in the Navy and worked as an automotive mechanic. He was a member of the Elk's Lodge and a past exalted ruler. He loved spending time with his family and friends, camping, fishing, hunting, and watching Iowa football games.

Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Society for Cancer Research or the St. Luke's Hospice.
