Mrs. Vanous and family, My sympathies on your loss of Joe. I never worked directly with him, but knew him as a fine, kind, gentle man who always spoke to me with a friendly smile. He was a fine man. Stan Huff Collins in Cedar Rapids from 1962 to 1977 and in Florida from 1977 to 1996.

Condolences to Nadine and the family. Joe was the quiet type, like me, in grade school at St. Wence.

Susan, My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I have always remembered your parents as such very nice people. I remember our Camp Fire Girl meetings and your folks were always so sweet. I know my Mom and Dad were there to greet him at the gates of heaven. They always thought so much of your folks too. There is nothing harder than losing a parent, no matter what the circumstances. I will be with you tomorrow 1/14/2008 in spirit. If you need anything or just want to talk, please, give me a call 319-241-4825. I would love to see and talk to you. May God Bless you and yours, especially at this difficult time. Love, Jeanne Friedl Sylvester

Dear Nadine and Family - We remember Joe as a warm, friendly and caring man, who took our sister into your family as though she was his own. We know you feel a tremendous loss right now, but over time, we hope you come to hold happy memories in your hearts and know that he'll always be with you in spirit. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. With love, Don & Deborah Pausback

My deepest sympathy to Nadine, Sue, and the entire great Vanous family. Sue's house was my 2nd home when I was growing up and Joe and Nadine always made me feel like one of the family. I remember being a little awed by Joe's intelligence and his VERY calm demeanor. What a wonderful legacy he leaves his children and grandchildren - a love of seeking out knowledge, the priorities one should have in life, and 59 wonderful years of marriage to his one and only bride. He will be missed by many.

Joe and I shared an office at Collins for many years. Like Stan said, Joe was a great person. His contributions to Collins Ham gear will live on forever. Regards.

Dear Family of Joe Vanous: It was with deepest sorrow and surprise that I read of Joe's Passing as I had very short notice that he had been ill and was preparing to check with him as to how it he was doing. I am also saddened by the fact that I missed the announcement in the Gazette as the paper was late in getting to me. I had many interfaces with Joe during our working years together at Collins in Engineering and had developed much respect and admiration for his knowledge and abilities as an electrical engineer. I also looked forward to the times that he would bring Sylvan Dawson to our monthly retirees breaksfasts on numerous occasions. Joe was truly a great friend and co-worker to so many of us at work and will be deeply missed. My prayers go out to the family during this sad moment in time that God will give you strength, new hope, and peace as you recall the many memorable times that Joe was with us and give thanks for his wonderful qualities that we all remember him for.
