Memorial

Joseph A. Vanous, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, January 11, 2008, at his home. Funeral Mass and military honors will be held at 10:30 AM Monday at All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. David O’Connor officiating. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Sunday with a Vigil service beginning at 7 PM.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Nadine, six children, Susan Richard Wolfe of Cedar Rapids, Richard Mary Beth of Rochelle, Illinois, Mary Ann Will Stober of Alden, Iowa, James Cathy of Roseville, Minnesota, Carol Dr. Todd Langager of Cedar Rapids, and Paul Jody of Mason City, Iowa, twelve grandchildren, Lisa Vic Parcell, Dan Kristin Wolfe, Claire and Laura Vanous, Clint Sarah Stober, Chris Devon Stober, Mike, Carolyn, and Kevin Vanous, Karah Langager, Ethan and Syndnie Vanous, and three great grandchildren Isaiah and Arthur Stober, and Kaylee Parcell. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Edwin.

Joseph was born August 27, 1923 in Cedar Rapids to Joseph and Bessie Kofron Vanous. He served in the US Army during WW II. He married Nadine Peterzalek on September 2, 1948 in Belle Plaine, Iowa. He was a electrical engineer at Collins Radio for many years retiring in 1985. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, VFW Post No 788, Catholic Layman’s Club, and the National Czech and Slovak Museum. He enjoyed reading, photography, and electronics. He loved being an Electrical Engineer and all the people he worked with. He especially enjoyed family vacations.

Joseph will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
