Arnold 'Arnie' Jacobs 77, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Tuesday, December 25, 2007, after a long, courageous 18 month battle with pancreatic and liver cancer. Celebration of Life Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Harlan Gillespie and Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Private Family Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will greet friends after 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
Arnie's survivors include his wife, La Nel; his son, Jeffrey Jacobs and wife, Kathy and their daughter, Mallery of Syracuse, N.Y.; a stepson, Kenton Knepper of Phoenix, A.Z.; a stepdaughter, Kris Knepper and husband, Wayne Swanson of Cedar Rapids; and his sister Natalie of Skokie, I.L.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Laurel, and brother, Jerry.
Arnie was born on September 29, 1930 to Harry and Irene Jacobs, joining a brother, Jerry and a sister, Natalie in Chicago, IL. He graduated from high school in 1948 and joined the Illinois National Guard and went on active duty in 1948. He was discharged in 1950. He married Beverly Dooley in 1950 and had three children, Jeffrey Arnold Jacobs, Laurel Elaine Jacobs, and Jay Russell Jacobs. They divorced in 1959. He married Mary Janet James in 1960. She died in 1993. He married La Nel Knepper in 1998. They treasured and enjoyed their life together.
Arnie managed TCR Distributing in Davenport. In 1954 he moved to Marion and went to work for Gifford Brown Inc., becoming the assistant manager in 1960. He was co-founder of Deeco Inc which later changed its name to Dee Electronics. Arnie was General Manager and Vice President until his retirement in 2000. In 2001 he purchased Custom Connection Corporation in Burnsville, MN.
The family asks there be no flowers. Memorials may be sent to St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, or the Anna Purna Ghosh Foundation.
