Memorial
Linda Joyce Slotterback Graff, 57, of 4726 Riverside Court NE, died November 26th, 2007 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy from complications of cancer following a lengthy and courageous battle with the disease. She was born July 3, 1950 in Iowa City to Russell and Virginia Slotterback who preceded her in death. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 8 PM Thursday, November 29, 2007 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, with a private entombment on Friday at the Garden of Tranquility in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her ex-husband, Jim; her two sons Rusty Ann and B.J. Heidi; and her two grandchildren whom she absolutely adored, Madison and Piper, all residing in Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are Linda's brother Bob Kim and nephews Brendan and Cory from Mequam, Wisconsin, and brother Mark Karen and family of Plano, Texas; a special aunt Betty Bill Upton of Superior, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Gary Linda Graff of Alameda, California and nephews Danny Courtney, Tim, and Rob. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Linda attended grade school in Iowa City, graduated from City High in 1968 and received and academic scholarship to attend the University of Iowa. She married Jim on August 31, 1974 at St. Jude Catholic Church, and later obtained an AA from Kirkwood Community College. She worked at several physicians' offices in Cedar Rapids as a Medical Assistant, but spent most of her limited working career as a Phlebotomist at St. Luke's Hospital. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and then bravely fought the disease until she finally succumbed.
The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to many relatives and friends who have offered their support to Linda and our family over the past 20 years. We especially thank our tennis friends and "partners;" Suzanne and John Wood for all of the "Cherry Mr. Mistys;" and Jack and Ann Wallace for always visiting Linda when they were in town. Linda also became very attached to her four-legged friends, Brody and Peanut. We also wish to acknowledge the great staff at Linn Manor Care Center where Linda resided for about a year who provided excellent care and the Mercy Hospice team for the superb medical and spiritual care they rendered, especially Brook, Becky, and Dr. Cearlock. Additionally, although it was a short stay at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for Linda, we cannot express our appreciation to the staff enough for all of their care and support during this difficult time.
Linda very much appreciated each and every day of life she was given after her original dismal diagnosis. She never complained about her circumstances and had a terrific sense of humor that never failed her, even in the darkest times. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by the many who loved her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Linda's honor has been established.
