Memorial
Frances Ann Rinas, 85, completed her earthly journey at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 24, 2007. She was attended in her passing by her husband of 62 years, Bruno Rinas, and by daughters and sons and grandsons and granddaughters and great granddaughters. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Friday from 5PM to 8PM.
Fran began her journey on January 18, 1922 in Clinton, Iowa as the first daughter born to Frank and Anna Faye Thompson. She attended Clinton primary and secondary schools and served as a "candy-striper" during WW II. She met future husband, Bruno, while working at Shick Hospital in Clinton. Fran and Bruno were married December 27, 1945 in Cando, North Dakota. After farming two years near Egeland, North Dakota, Fran and Bruno relocated for three years in Ames, Iowa before settling in Marion in 1952.
Fran was preceded in death by a multitude of loved ones, including her parents, her beloved son, Mark, and her grandson Matthew Rinas, and also by her sister Naomi Gifford and half-sisters Helen Thompson and Katherine Leese, her uncle Marvin and Grandma Leese and Aunt Wilhemina Scott. She is survived by husband Bruno of Cedar Rapids, son Joe of Cedar Rapids, daughters Barbara Cordis Bechler of Sac City, Iowa and Linda Kurt Livingston of Marion and daughter-in-law Jennifer Rinas of Tipton, Iowa. Her grandchildren are Shelly Jim Chipman, Corinne Jay Hinrichs, YaVonne Bechler, Ron Livingston, John Jenni Livingston, Jennifer Mike Thompson, Nick Livingston, Joshua Jenny Rinas and Justin Rinas. Her great-grandchildren are Pari, Eli, Jesse, Carley, Eddie, Ele, Maggie and Kaitlin Rae.
Fran was first and foremost a homemaker in the highest sense of that word but was able to pursue several avocations for enjoyment and profit. A musician and artist, an avid antique collector and dealer and in her later years a proficient computer graphics artist and published poet.
Any attempt to condense a lifetime into a few paragraphs is futile. Suffice it to say that Frances Ann Rinas had a quick wit and a fine sense of humor. She was a woman of strong opinions who was not reticent to share them. At her core was a boundless well of love. In turn she was greatly loved and will be missed by those who knew her.
The family requests no flowers, please. Memorial donations can be made to Ascension Lutheran Compassion Fund or a charity of your choice.
