22 years ago Nate became my stepfather by marrying my mother. However, through the years he brought out the "father" in stepfather by being the wonderful, loving man that he was. What a gift we had in him! The first year after he married Mom I sent him a Fathers' Day card that told him how grateful I was to be able to send a Father's Day card again after all the years since my Dad died. Each year since then I have repeated that sentiment to him on the third Sunday of June. And more than that, I told him often what a special addition to our family he was. He was warm, kind, funny, positive, generous and had a big big heart. He also had a wonderfully quirky sense of humor and a great sense of mischief that seemed to somehow match my own. I have been truly honored to have a chance to be a part of this man's life. I loved him very much and will miss him very much, but he has earned his rest and I know he is happier now. Yahoooo, Nate!

We love you Grand-pa Nate. I remember you teaching me to fish and ride a tractor, and to go to Church.

In the late forties through the fifties, Nate was my number one barber at the College Hill Barber Shop in Cedar Falls. He was also the chief "cutter" for my dad and two younger brothers. Never heard an unkind word when in his chair. And, he always followed the activities at Teachers College High School. We did get together once on the golf course here in Cedar Rapids afew years back. We enjoyed reminiscing about our time on "the hill."
