Memorial
Dwayne L. Ampey, 71, of 1311 15th St S.E. died Friday June 8, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Richard Reed will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-7pm at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Schumacher and husband Brad, Lorinda Ampey and a son, James Henderson all of Cedar Rapids, 3 sisters, Barbara Edwards of Cedar Rapids, Marion Nance of Marion and Norma Armstrong of Richmond Heights, California. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Joseph and Hayli Schumacher and Kyle Ampey, a great grandson, Anthony Ampey and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, three brothers, Fred, James and Kurtis Ampey, and two sisters, Madeline Brown and Ethel May Ampey preceded him in death.
Dwayne was born February 26, 1936 in Cedar Rapids, the son of David and Naomi Ampey. He was employed at Penick & Ford. Dwayne had a great love for boxing and was a Golden Glove Champion. He spent over 25 years at Jane Boyd, coaching boxing to many children and adults. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and caring for his dogs. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War.
The family has established a memorial fund.
