Mary L. Evans, 65, of 4923 Oakgrove Rd. NE died Monday May 7, 2007 at her home after a long illness. Memorial services at 11 AM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of memories where friends may call after 10 AM on Friday. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice Evans of Cedar Rapids and Gladys Evans of Dubuque, a son, Nelson Evans III of Cedar Rapids, her mother, Gladys Davis of Chicago, Ill., two sisters, Shirley Martin of Cedar Rapids and Mildred Hunt of Chicago, Ill., three brothers, Eugene Davis Jr. and Charles Davis both of Chicago, Ill. and Anthony Davis of Baltimore, Maryland. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Araf and Nelson Braylon Evans, Erica, Rochelle and Brittany Floyd, her former husband, Nelson Evans and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, and three sisters, Ethel Strong, Barbara McLauren and Josephine Mabry.

Mary was born on May 19, 1941 in Opelika, Alabama, the daughter of Eugene and Gladys Stenson Davis Sr. She received her master degree from Mt. Mercy College and was a social worker for the Iowa Dept. of Corrections for 10 years, retiring in 2003. Mary enjoyed gardening, travel and interior decorating. A memorial fund has been established in Mary's name.
