Mary E. Thomas, 89, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab died there on Monday April 9, 2007 after a short illness. Services at 3:00 PM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include three sons, David Carole of Cedar Rapids and Lary Rhea and Gary Donna all of Denver, Colorado, two brothers, Dale Shirley Swordes of Orlando, Florida and Victor Swordes of Colorado springs, Colorado. She is also survived by grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary was born on Oct. 12, 1917 in Maquoketa, the daughter of Dale and Ethel Swordes. She married Alvin L. Thomas on Oct. 24, 1938 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1968. Mary was a teacher at the Paris Beauty Academy and retired from there after 26 years of service. She enjoyed raising flowers her cats and especially time spent with her friends and beloved family. A memorial fund has been established in Mary's name.
