Harry W. Elliott of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday January 31, 2007 of complications of lung disease at Mercy Medical Center. At his request private services will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Grant Wood chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Harry was born December 30th, 1922 to Homer and Minnie Elliott in Hannibal, Missouri and married Ila Hesse in the mid 1940's. He had two brothers, Charles and Vincel and a sister Ruby. Harry is survived by three children, Carolyn, David Connie, and Jody Randy Hess and four grandchildren, Sarah, Jamie, Harrison and Kathryn who preceded him in death.
Harry served in the US Army during World War II from 1943-1946. He worked at the Chamberlain Manufacturing Company in Waterloo and over the years owned and operated several businesses in the area including Iowa Rolling Snack Bars. He enjoyed fishing, an avid poker player, and liked betting on the horses. He was a great bowler in his younger years and enjoyed his trips to Meskwaki.
Dad always fed the squirrels, loved the family pets and never turned down coffee and a donut. He was a wonderful grandpa and his whole family loves him and will miss him.
The family wished to thank Mercy Outpatient Dialysis, Dr. Pruchno, and Mercy Medical Center Cardiac nurses for the good care the gave dad.
A memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers.
