Joyce Annette Nelson, 45, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 in St. Luke's Hospital following a long term battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Services: 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, at 153 Cherry Hill Road N.W., Cedar Rapids, by the Pastors Randy Kasch and Kathryn Roys. Friends may call on Saturday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, 1221 1st Ave S.W., Cedar Rapids, from 4-7 p.m. and after 12:30 p.m. at the church on Sunday.

Survivors include her husband Don Nelson, two daughters, Amanda and Jennifer Nelson of Atkins, her parents, Pastor DuWayne and Joan Dalen of Cedar Rapids, two brothers, Carlyle Leslie Dalen of Mason City, Iowa, DuWayne Kimberly Dalen of Dallas Center, Iowa, a sister, Linda Jeremy Latham of Mason City, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

Her grandparents preceded her in death.

Joyce was born February 20, 1961 in Willows, California, the daughter of DuWayne and Joan Dalen. She married Donovan L. Nelson on June 11, 1983 in Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa. Joyce graduated from Lake Mills High School and Luther College with a Bachelor's degree in nursing. She was employed with St. Luke's Hospital as an RN for 17 years and an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Her hobbies were taking care of her girls, collecting tea cups, and visiting with people. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, a great friend, and a firm believer in Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
