Memorial

Jack R. VanderWeg, 73, of Colorado Springs and a former resident of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday at the Mt. St. Francis Nursing Center in Colorado Springs, following a short illness. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Lovely Lane United Methodist Church by Rev. Brian Milford officiating. Private burial will take place prior to the memorial service at the church. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Surviving are two daughters, Sue Robbins Jeffrey and their children, Jeffrey II, Patrick, Linda and Jessica and Linda O'Brine Michael and their children Cara and Sean. Also surviving are six sisters, Delores Paige Buerger of Monona, Iowa, Jacqueline Alton Korsvik of Prosser, Washington, Devon Bud Schab of Villah, Washington, Betty Leonard Blaak of Kennewick, Washington, Wanda Thompson of Kennewick, Washington and Judy Casey Cummings of Renton, Washington and a brother, Robert Shirley Kleinow of Tillamook, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was born July 26, 1928 in Victorville, California to John and Ethel Coates VanderWeg and was married to Donna Rae Johnson on July 18, 1953 in Cedar Rapids. She preceded him in death in 1995. He lived his formative years in Postville, Iowa, graduating from Postville High School, Class of 1946. He joined the Navy right out of high school and attended one year at the University of Iowa. He was formerly employed by Hawkeye Seed Company and then Armstrong's Department Store in men's clothing for 38 years prior to his retirement.

He was a charter member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church and then at the Sunrise United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs after moving there in 1992.
