Marjorie (Marj) Helen Dawson, 76, passed away Tuesday, November 20 2018 at Cedar Valley Hospice in Waterloo, Iowa.
Marj was born September 11, 1942 in Maynard, Iowa. She did not meet her father until she was four years of age as he served in WWII in the South Pacific. Her parents, Max and Doris Rath, raised their daughter in Oelwein, Iowa where she graduated in 1960. Marj and Tom were married in Oelwein September 2nd, 1961. Both worked in education for many years of which of that time was in Independence which has been their home for 50 years. Marj loved her home, her flower gardens, visiting with friends, traveling coast-to-coast, and trying her luck at the casino. Marj’s main love however was seeing her children’s families grow and prosper. She felt very fortunate to have her beloved sister Nancy living close by.
She is survived by her husband, Tom and two sons, Brian(Sue), from Rosemount, Minnesota, and Brent(Julie), from Waterloo, Iowa. Marj has a sister, Nancy, and three grandchildren, Christopher(Brittnee), Tyler and Miranda. In addition, she has two step-grandchildren, Grant and Jordan.
Per her wishes cremation has taken place. A private celebration of Marj’s life will take at a later date.
Thank you to all hospital and medical personnel in Independence. The care for her well-being was full of love.
