John M. Freeman, 90, of Spartanburg, SC, formerly of Cedar Rapids, went to the Lord on Friday, November 16, 2018.

Public graveside service: 12:00 PM Friday, November 30, 2018 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 am Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his daughter, Sharon (Bruce) Fahnle of Inman, SC and their three children, Jason (Melissa) Fahnle, Brian (Robyn) Fahnle, Anna (Carl Jones) Fahnle, all of South Carolina; Michael (Laura) Jump, Dustin (Nikki) Timmons, Brandon (Crystal) Wellner, Amanda (Josh) Newton, all of Iowa; son-in-law, Randy Wellner of Iowa; great grandchildren, Zach, Laura, Allison Fahnle, Lucie Fahnle, Liam and Nora Ann Jump, Abel Timmons, Addison and Jasper Newton, Nicholas and Chloe Wellner; 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Laura Freeman; wife, LaVonne “Bonnie” Freeman; daughter, Karen Wellner; two sisters, Winifred Ennis and Dorothy Graham; and a brother, Thomas Freeman.

John Melvin Freeman was born June 3, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Laura (Crane) Freeman. He attended St. Patrick’s school and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. On July 2, 1949, he married LaVonne “Bonnie” Long in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Bonnie died August 30, 1998. John worked for Link Belt Speeder/F.M.C. as a welder for over 40 years. After retirement, he then drove a school bus for the Cedar Rapids Community School District for 6 years.
