Jean Marie (Hunt) Ogden, 87, of Marion, died Tuesday, March 20, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha after a short illness.  Memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 24 at First Congregational Church.  Visitation will be held on Friday, March 23, from 3 pm to 6 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Jean was born on November 23, 1930, the daughter of Robert and Ruby Hunt.  She loved life and lived it to the fullest.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.  She cherished her family and loved bragging about all of them.  Her friends and social activities were almost as important, from weekly bridge games to Friday night movies with the girls and Alpha Chi Omega. She was very active in her church serving as a Deacon for 16 years and knitting hats and mittens. She also volunteered at Mercy Medical Center in the radiation department and Johnson School Rock and Reading Program.

She loved to travel, spending many winter months in Florida with Pat, Joanie and JoAnne.  She was a friend to all who met her, especially her “kids” at McKinley and Franklin where she served as attendance secretary for 28 years.  She loved working out at the YMCA, walks and Iowa sports, especially the Hawkeye football team.  She was a longtime season ticket holder and a proud “bumble bee” for many years.

She is survived by her children Cathy Brunsting, Candy Mullen and husband Jeff and John “J.R.” and wife Lisa Ogden; grandchildren, Christine (Lee) Young, April (Micha) Ogden, Jack (Gretchen) Ogden and Benjamin (Jordan) Ogden; great grandchildren; Justis, Keaton (Terra), Spencer, Skyler, Caleb, Kenley, Kaiser, Isla, Halle, Stella and great great grandson Emmett. She will also be missed by her granddogs; Bella, Tazer, Sadie and especially Mindy. Among her dearest friends are Pat, Joanie, Judy and too many more to mention.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and her parents.

The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff on the ninth floor at Mercy Medical Center and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, especially Adam, Joel, and Laura.  Their care and words of advice will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Jean’s name be made to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House and Furfun dog rescue out of Lisbon.
