Memorial

Barbara Elam, 82, a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018.  A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 16 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.  There will be a memorial held one hour prior at 10:00a.m., at the chapel.   

Barbara was born on June 28, 1936 in LeClede, MO.  She moved to Cedar Rapids as a child, spending most of her life in the Oak Hill neighborhood.  Barbara loved her community and spent many years as a Civil Rights Activist and community volunteer.    She accepted Christ as her savior at Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she was extremely active singing in the choir.  She was also a vocalist in the Cedar Rapids Follies, and at numerous events including; weddings, funerals, nursing homes and schools.  Her spiritual journey led her to work with people and use her gift of singing.

Barbara is survived by her children, Elaine and William Elam, Jr.; two grandchildren, Hailey and Tanner Elam; a great-granddaughter Honey Rose; a brother, Richard (Jan) Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins.   

She was preceded in death by her parents Marian and LeRoy Moody.
