Marilyn L. Bowman 80, of Cedar Rapids died Friday January 5, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals. Memorial service at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment in the Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum Columbarium. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her two sons, Matt of Kemah, Texas and Scott of the Colony, Texas; two sisters Judith Sauerteig of Denver, Colorado and Thelma Briggs of Des Moines. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Nathan, Marissa, Jackson and Jane Bowman. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Marilyn was born on December 31, 1937 in Des Moines, the daughter of Clifford and Irene Priest Thomas. She graduated from High School in Knoxville and later graduated from the University of Iowa.

Marilyn married Durwood V. “Woody” Bowman on June 19, 1960 in Knoxville. Woody passed away in 1998. She was a speech therapist for the Cedar Rapids Community Schools and retired from there after 24 years of service.

Marilyn was a member of the Friends of the Zoo, the Cedar Rapids Art Museum, friends of the Library and volunteered at the Nature Center.

Marilyn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
