Memorial
Donald ”Don” Albaugh, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services will be Saturday, January 27, 2018, 11:00 am, at the Chapel of Memories, Cedar Memorial Park, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A visitation will precede the service beginning at 9:00 am at the Chapel. Burial will take place at a later date.
Don was born June 21, 1936 to Lorenzo Donald and Mary Evelyn Albaugh. He lived in Cedar Rapids his entire life, except for the many summers he spent on his grandparent’s farm in Stanwood. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1954 and attended the University of Iowa. He went on to work in the floor covering business for twenty years and then in 1979 he took a sales position with Cherry Burrell/Evergreen Packaging where he covered territories in the Midwest, Canada and parts of Europe, retiring in 2007. In the field of sales, he earned respect and admiration. Those who knew him called him a seasoned listener which equaled his success.
In 1992, he bought a farm near Williamsburg and enjoyed his years of farming, raising cattle and making many friends. He also enjoyed many weekends up in McGregor boating on the river and spending time with his friends along with having a few “Funnies”.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Connie Albaugh of Cedar Rapids, children, Jeff (Minde) Albaugh of Williamsburg, Julia (Tim) Harrison of Orono, MN, Betsy (Alan) Johnson of Sioux City, and Lori (Jim) Hannan of Marion. His sister, Shirley (Junie) Allee of Cedar Rapids. 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Beverly.
Don felt very fortunate in life to have made many friends socially, and in business, and wanted to thank them all for their friendship. He was a good friend to many people and his humor and warmth will be deeply missed.
